The Village of Northbrook's Bicycle Task Force meets 7-9 p.m. today in the Village Hall's second-floor Terrace Conference Room. The task force seeks to make the village more bicycle-friendly by improving access to bicycle transportation, coordinating bicycle-related initiatives and presenting recommendations to the Village Board.

Streamwood officials reviewed the 2016 budget at a recent Village Board workshop. Finance Director Mary Johnson reviewed the fund balances, expected revenues and proposed expenditures. Johnson also reviewed the proposed 2015 property tax levy and reminded the group that it is the same as the 2014 tax-levy extension, which was paid in 2015.

The Mount Prospect Village board of trustees met on Nov. 3. Sister Cities Commission Chairman Robert Usnik presented an annual report to the board. The commission's activities included fundraisers and a self-financed trip to Sèvres, France. Representatives from Sèvres are planning a trip to the village in 2017.

Randy Hultgren (R-Dist. 14) received a commitment from Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) on Tuesday during House debate on H.R. 3763, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015.Shuster agreed to work on directing federal transportation funds to suburban areas as the bill goes to conference to ensure a more equitable distribution of highway funds among urban, suburban and rural communities.
Mount Prospect residents can leave loose leaves at their curbs for pickup through Nov. 20 by Public Works crews. The program is for loose leaves only. Grass clippings and other yard debris will not be picked up. Residents must rake their leaves to the pavement, 1 foot from the curb, the day before their scheduled pickup.
