The Elgin Community Crisis Center’s annual Winter Wear Drive seeks new and gently used winter outerwear through Dec. 31.
Elgin's fire stations are serving as collection sites, with collection boxes set up at all seven stations. Requested items include boots, coats, gloves, hats, mittens, scarves and snow pants in all sizes for men, women and children, especially men's coats and children's sizes. Larger sizes are also welcome. All donated outerwear should be clean and in good condition, with zippers intact and no buttons missing. Lightweight clothing, sweaters, sweatshirts, dress coats and trench coats are not needed at this time.
“Winter is quickly approaching, and there are those in our community who need coats to stay warm,” Fire Chief John Fahy said. ”Residents are encouraged to join the fire department in helping the Community Crisis Center by dropping off donations to any of Elgin’s seven fire stations.”
The Community Crisis Center will distribute the winter outerwear to those in need. This nonprofit agency is a safe shelter that provides assistance to women and children who find themselves homeless due to domestic violence, sexual assault or financial crises. Donations can also be dropped off at the Community Crisis Center at 37 S. Geneva St. Please call in advance.
