The Hanover Park Police Department will host a medication collection event on Saturday, October 25, 2025, as part of the DEA's National Drug Take Back Day. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the police department, with the Kenneth Young Center present to collect unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications. The center will also provide information about substance use disorder, prevention, and treatment options.
Organizers note that improper disposal of medicines, such as flushing them down the toilet or pouring them into sinks, can lead to environmental contamination. There is also concern that unused prescription drugs may be misused or contribute to opioid addiction. According to the announcement, "Opioid overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the U.S. That's why Drug Take Back Day is a great opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinet and turn in, safely and anonymously, all your expired and unneeded medications."
For those unable to attend the event on October 25, the Hanover Park Police Department maintains a drug take-back box in its lobby, available daily from 8:00 a.m. to midnight.
