The Village of Skokie has reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all residents, regardless of immigration status. The announcement emphasizes that everyone in the community is entitled to legal protections and access to local services.

Residents seeking information or assistance with immigration matters are encouraged to use several resources, including the Illinois Immigration Information Hub, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic, and Resurrection Project – Immigration Legal Services. In case of an immigration emergency or to report Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity, individuals can call the ICIRR Family Support Hotline at 1-855-HELP-MY-FAMILY (1-855-435-7693). Community members may also reach out to Skokie Health and Human Services at 847-933-8252 for further support regarding immigrant rights.

The Village’s policy follows the Illinois TRUST Act, which limits local law enforcement’s involvement in federal immigration enforcement. Under this law, police cannot detain individuals based solely on their citizenship or immigration status unless there is a valid criminal warrant. Residents who have concerns about law enforcement actions are advised to contact the Skokie Police Department by dialing 911.
