State Rep. Marty Moylan, (D-Dist. 55) is encouraging motorists to sign up for an email alert that will inform them when it is time to renew their driver’s licenses, as the Illinois Secretary of State’s office no longer sends out reminders by mail.
“Without receiving a paper reminder in the mail, it can be easy to forget the exact time to renew a license,” Moylan said. “I encourage everyone to sign up for an email reminder to make sure they avoid potential fines.”
The state recently made the cost-cutting move, and the Secretary of State’s office estimates that eliminating the paper-reminder program will save the agency $450,000 per month. The Secretary of State’s Office will continue to mail out license-plate stickers, titles and licenses plates, however.
“The governor continues to play political games with the budget making process, and the hard-working taxpayers end up paying the price with reduced services,” Moylan said. “I encourage the governor to return to the table so we can work on a budget and end these arbitrary cutbacks in services.”
