The Women to Watch event in Springfield, Illinois, recently highlighted the contributions of notable women across the state. This gathering featured a diverse array of women who participated in various activities, including a breakfast, a Capitol tour, a networking lunch, and an informational seminar led by female leaders.

The event recognized the achievements and dedication of women like Nina Kremidas and Elizabeth Murray-Belcaster. Kremidas, who serves as the Director of Activities at Ascension Living Resurrection Village in Chicago, works in a retirement living environment that offers independent and assisted living. Meanwhile, Murray-Belcaster, as President of EMB Consultants, focuses on workforce development and training for military veterans and co-founded the Northwest Side Irish Parade.

Host Rep. Stephens expressed gratitude for the participation of Kremidas and Murray-Belcaster, highlighting their ongoing efforts to enhance the lives of various community members. Acknowledging their contributions, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie honored nearly 50 women from across Illinois during a breakfast at the event.

In April, Rep. Stephens also engaged with Ridgewood High School students in the 20th District through a Q&A session, fielding questions on state government and its processes. The session was described as an invaluable opportunity to interact with future leaders.

Additionally, in collaboration with Senator Martwick's office, a Money Smart class was held for older adults and caregivers. Jerry Kochowicz led the course, aiming to teach attendees about preventing financial fraud and scams.

Rep. Stephens and her team also participated in the Amtrak Illinois State Legislators Tour at Chicago Union Station. They learned about the Chicago Hub Improvement Program (CHIP) intended to improve passenger rail services in Illinois.

April concluded with a meeting of the 20th District Women’s Circle, where pressing state issues were discussed. This dialogue aimed at addressing matters affecting Illinois communities drew appreciation from attendees.
