A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Glenbrook High School District 225 on January 13, 2025 by North Cook News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. The request sought information about the number of non-U.S. citizens, referred to as "migrants," currently enrolled in the school district.
The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the data in an electronic format. As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at North Cook News believe that access to such records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
In addition to the specific data requested, we also highlighted our role as a media organization in disseminating information to the public and stated our belief that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
