Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who has been serving Illinois’ 8th district since 2017, has recently voiced concerns over the targeting of youth by tobacco and vape companies. In a series of tweets, he emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of existing laws to protect children from nicotine addiction.

On December 2, 2024, Congressman Krishnamoorthi expressed his concerns about the marketing strategies employed by Big Tobacco and illegal vape manufacturers, particularly those in China. He stated: "Our kids are not for sale, but Big Tobacco and illegal vape-makers, especially in the People's Republic of China, continue to target them. The FDA must enforce the law to crack down on these addictive products before they get our kids hooked on nicotine."

Continuing his advocacy on December 3, 2024, he highlighted the prevalence of illegal flavored vaping products in the U.S. market and criticized the FDA's lack of enforcement. He noted: "Most flavored vaping products available for purchase in the U.S. are illegal. This lack of enforcement from the FDA hurts Cook County’s efforts to protect our kids from the negative health impacts of vaping. It’s past time the FDA stepped up."

In a lighter note on December 3, 2024, Congressman Krishnamoorthi celebrated Illinois' statehood anniversary with a tweet that read: "Happy birthday, Illinois! On this day in 1818, Illinois became the 21st state! It’s an honor to serve the Land of Lincoln and my fellow Illinoisans in Congress."
