Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey congratulated community award honoree Donna Adam.
Bailey joined many community members in applauding Adam, a devoted civic role model.
“Congratulations to Donna Adam on receiving this award”, said Bailey.
The award was the Community Honor Roll recognition given to Adam, founder of the green initiative Clean Up-Give Up, during the Des Plaines Park District Board Meeting for her "outstanding dedication and commitment to furthering recreational benefits for the Des Plaines community". Park District Executive Director Don Miletic praised her contribution to community clean-up activities through Clean Up-Give Back, which in 2021 employed 1,379 volunteers who removed 40,000 pounds of trash. Adam, Miletic told Patch, "cleans with a smile and is someone that goes above and beyond.”
"I believe the human spirit thrives when tasked with something bigger than itself," Adam said in a statement. "Clean Up-Give Back empowers everyone with flexible service opportunities to create a better environment while building personal connections and advancing socioeconomic justice. Concerned citizens, civic leaders, business owners, clubs, schools, and municipalities – as well as individuals seeking court-ordered service hours – have a home at Clean Up-Give Back to meet their respective goals."
The Clean Up-Give Back initiative, which seeks to drastically decrease plastic bag pollution, has already retrieved almost 3,600 pounds of plastic bags from landfills. Since its foundation, Clean Up-Give Back has arranged additional cleanup initiatives for businesses, churches, and other organizations. It was responsible for 62 community cleanups with 906 volunteers in 2020 alone, clearing 24,957 pounds of waste and debris from parks, rivers, forest preserves, and other locations around Chicagoland.
Erin Doerr, Des Plaines Park Board Commissioner, noted Adam’s service as well. “Recognizing Clean Up - Give Back founder, Donna Adam was the highlight of my Des Plaines Park District park board meeting yesterday. This morning I met with owner of College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving and Sheena Gutierrez - Bella Homes Team LLC- Keller Williams Realty Partners for a networking meeting. I’ll stand by these women leaders any day!”
As a State Senator, Bailey is part of several committees including the Energy and Public Utilities.
