City of Evanston Citizen Police Review Commission met July 22.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Present : Jamal Graham, Blanca Lule, Shahna Richman, Nikko Ross, Juneitha

Shambee, Nyika Strickland, Clarence Weaver, Douglas Whitmore Absent: Rick Marsh

Staff Present : Interim Assistant City Manager Kimberly Richardson, Police Chief Demetrius Cook, Sgt. Aaron Wernick and Sgt. Jeff Faison.

Others Present :

1. Call to Order/Declaration of Quorum

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Steve Hagerty who gave an introduction to the Citizen Police Review Commission. Kimberly Richardson, Interim Assistant City Manager described the policies and procedures for Commission meetings to the newly appointed commission members. Police Chief Demetrius Cook, Sgt. Aaron Wernick and Sgt. Jeff Faison introduced themselves to the commission. Lastly, commission members introduced themselves.

2. New Business

A. Nomination of the Commission Chair

Ms. Juneitha Shambee was nominated for Commission Chair and a vote to appointing her will take place at the next meeting.

B. 2020 Meeting Schedule

Meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

C. Training Schedule

Police Chief Demetrius Cook informed the Committee members of all the training, policies, and procedures they are expected to be familiar with. Ms. Richardson will send an email containing a checklist with tasks that need to be completed by commission members.

D. Bylaw Working Group

Juneitha Shambee and Douglas Whitmore will be working with Interim Assistant City Manager Kimberly Richardson.

E. Review of Ordinance 79-O-19 Citizen Police Review Commission

No discussion.

3. Public Comment

No public comment.

4. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
