Northbrook Park District issued the following announcement on Sept. 4.
Prepare for a diverse lineup of fall activities—the Northbrook Park District’s online Autumn Guide is available at nbparks.org!
The Guide features a variety of programming for all ages, including athletics, art, golf, fitness and senior activities. The Guide is only available online at nbparks.org and will not be mailed to residents’ homes. Program registration is now open at nbparks.org/online-registration.
Activities follow guidelines of the CDC, the State of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Public Health with small group sizes, additional cleaning protocols and face-covering requirements. Helpful icons throughout the Guide indicate whether programs are held outside, inside and/or offered as a virtual program. Programs have specific protocols which are emailed to participants prior to the first class.
“We have so many incredible autumn programs and events for everyone to enjoy and we look forward to celebrating the season with the community,” said Katie Kotloski, Recreation Division Manager. “The need to incorporate physical distancing and small group sizes inspired us to create new activities that utilize our great outdoor spaces, opening up additional recreation opportunities.”
Among exciting special events this fall is Pumpkinfest on October 17 at Indian Ridge Park. Families are invited to enjoy pumpkin decorating, storytelling, s’mores, scarecrows and a Great Pumpkin challenge. On October 23, don a costume and a pair of athletic shoes for the new Halloween 3K Fun Run at Techny Prairie and Fields. The event features multiple start times and a Halloween-themed course, along with a candy contest and costume contest following the race.
Show off your most spooktacular decorating skills for the Halloween Spooky Trail! Houses will be judged the week of October 26 and multiple prizes will be awarded. The community is invited to view homes along the Spooky Trail October 31 from 4-8pm, starting at Village Hall with map distribution and ending at the Leisure Center. The event is cosponsored by the Northbrook Park District, Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Arts Commission.
The District’s popular Paint in the Park nights are returning, with a Parent-Child Paint in the Park September 16 and Family Paint Night September 23. Both events take place at Indian Ridge Park. An Adult Craft Night is also planned in Indian Ridge Park September 17.
Northbrook Theatre is delivering a quality lineup of in-person and virtual performance opportunities. Students in grades 3-8 are invited to join the production We Are Monsters, with performances taking place outdoors at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Meadowhill Park October 30. Dance lessons, improv and private music and acting classes are also available.
Seniors are enjoying the new Northbrook Park District Senior Center location at Village Green Center. Equipped with adequate space for physical distancing, Village Green Center provides Senior Center members their own building for in-person activities. Many programs, including upcoming video watch parties and presentations, offer seniors the option to participate in person at Village Green or virtually from the comfort of home.
Virtual and in-person fitness classes at Village Green Center are also available this fall, including yoga, Pilates and Zumba, or meet your fitness goals with customized outdoor personal training options.
A variety of outdoor youth athletics activities are also available, including basketball, baseball, lacrosse, volleyball and soccer. Personalized instruction on your driveway can be scheduled through the Hot Shots at Home program.
Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy rounds of golf with family and friends at the 9-hole Anetsberger Golf Course. Save 30% on 2020 season memberships. Private lessons and youth leagues are also offered.
The Northbrook Park District thanks its advertisers in the Autumn Guide, including Lurie Children’s Outpatient Center in Northbrook and Consumers Credit Union.
