Northbrook FD responds to 93 fires in 2017

Northbrook Fire Department responded to 779 calls in 2017 - 13.9 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Northbrook included 93 fires - 38 structure fires, 11 vehicle fires and 44 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,175,100 in fire loss - or about $12,635 per fire.

The department also received 683 false calls, including 16 malicious calls and 667 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Northbrook Fire Department had an annual budget of $2,422,334 in 2017.

The Northbrook Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 70 active employees and 57 retired or inactive employees, was $1,528,986 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $16,266 for every fire in 2016.
