The 2015 tax levy's public hearing was recently held at a City Council meeting.

The public hearing for the 2015 tax levy was held at the Dec. 21 Park Ridge City Council meeting.

City Manager Hamilton explained the requirements for a public hearing in regards to a tax levy. The 2015 tax levy has increased 1.08 percent since the previous year. After asking for public comment without response, the public hearing was closed.

During the regular meeting, City Clerk Henneman gave the oaths of office to Deputy Chief of Police Duane Mellema and Police Sergeant Michael Luehr.

The council approved the sale of 1212 S. Cumberland Ave. to Volha Shukh for $285,000. Previously, the city-owned property was the fire department's administration building. The sales price is approximately 95 percent of the appraised value of the property.

In addition to other items, the council discussed the general eligibility requirements for appointees to boards and commissions. There had been several edits made since the previous meeting. The aldermen discussed the differences between background checks. The council voted in favor of changing the language from criminal background check to non-fingerprint background check to ensure consistency when determining the appointees' eligibility.

After making announcements and extending holiday greetings to the city, the meeting was adjourned.
