The City of Elgin Wellness Committee has taken steps over the past year to provide staff with a healthy working environment.
The committee's hard work was recognized by the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association (IPRA), and the city has been honored with the 2015 Exceptional Workplace Award.
The committee completed a 49-question survey that included submitting an essay explaining why the city deserved the award. The closed and open-ended questions allowed the IPRA to evaluate benefits, educational opportunities, employee assistance programs and wellness needs assessments and policies.
Elgin also submitted a copy of the wellness policy. After evaluation, the City of Elgin received 44 out of a total of 48 points.
The Exceptional Workplace Award will be presented to representatives of Elgin at 5 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the IPRA annual business meeting. Elgin attendees are invited to pick up a special ribbon to add to their name badges when registering for the event.
The City of Elgin Wellness Committee consists of eight members: Ron Anderson, Brad Bohner, Gail Cohen, Brandon Daufenbach, Eddy Hernandez, Chris Jensen, Sally Ryan and Kelly Wasilewski.
