Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner announced the appointment of State Rep. Raymond Poe as the new director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture on November 13.
Poe is a farmer in Sangamon County as well as an Illinois State Representative. He has represented Central Illinois for 20 years. He is on several committees: Agriculture & Conservation, Appropriations - Higher Education, Personnel and Pensions and as the Republican spokesperson on Business Occupational Licenses.
In addition to his work in the General Assembly, Poe was president of the Williamsville School Board for three years, the former president of the Lincoln Land Farm Supply and former president of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau. He received a degree from DeVry Institute of Technology.
Poe's extensive experience in agriculture, business and as a legislator will serve him well as the leader of the Department of Agriculture, Gov. Rauner said.
Gov. Rauner also appointed James Mullenix as a Commissioner on the Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission.
Mullenix is a criminal defense attorney at the law firm of Koehler Mullenix, LLC. Previously he worked in the Cook County Public Defender's Office as an Assistant Public Defender. He handled cases ranging from misdemeanors to murder. In all, Mulleniz has nearly 35 years of experience as a defense attorney. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and received his law degree from Loyola University.
