More than 1,300 homes west of Romona Road in Wilmette are expected to see less basement flooding during rainstorms, thanks to a new sewage storage tank installed by the village.
The 5.5 million-gallon tank is the first phase of construction for the larger West Park Sanitary Sewer Storage Project.
The village will next install a backflow valve on Lake Avenue, followed by a pump station to pump sewage into the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District system for treatment.
The $18 million project is scheduled to be completed by spring.
The village of Wilmette is governed by President Christopher Canning and six trustees. Current trustees are Julie Wolf, Alan Swanson, Cameron Krueger, Ted McKenna, Bob Bielinski and Mike Basil. Village Hall hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays.
