Illinois state Rep. Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) is focused on the welfare of his constituents in the 54th District.

Morrison is working with the Palatine Police Department to host a Prescription Drop-Off day on Tuesday, Aug. 18. Held at the Palatine Police Department, the two-hour event kicks off at 9 a.m.

“This event is a great opportunity for residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and safely dispose of any expired, unwanted or unused prescriptions,” said Morrison. “By partnering with our local police department, together we are providing a safe, convenient and responsible way residents can dispose of certain medicines.”

Organizers are stressing that every safety precaution will be in use, including the use of a drive-thru system. As part of the process, attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles, drive through and hand off their items.

Medicines including prescription ointments and patches, pet medications and vitamins will all be accepted for drop-off.

Also, in partnership with Palatine Township and nonprofit organization Vitalant, Morrison will host a blood drive on Friday, Aug. 28 at Palatine Township, 721 Quentin S. Road, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and by appointment only.

“There is still a serious need for blood and this event will help increase our supply,” Morrison told the North Cook News. “Donating blood doesn’t take long, but has an immediate impact that can help save lives, especially during the shortage that we are experiencing. I would encourage residents who are able, to book an appointment and come help out.”

Morrison again stressed that the event will take every safety precaution to keep both volunteers and donors safe. Food donations for the Palatine Township Food Pantry are also welcome during the event.

To make an appointment to donate blood, residents can visit Palatine Township's website and enter search code 517D. The event marks the third time Morrison has held such an event, with the first two events having been designated as huge successes.
