As winter nears, the Village of Skokie is calling on residents to support the 2025 Skokie Assist-A-Family Program. The program aims to help local families facing financial difficulties by providing them with gift cards to local businesses. These cards allow families to buy groceries, household goods, and other necessities based on their specific needs.

According to the Village, last year’s program supported 314 Skokie households. Organizers note that all contributions remain within Skokie and help reinforce community ties.

The Village is encouraging donations before Friday, December 12, 2025, to ensure families receive assistance ahead of the holidays. However, donations are accepted throughout the year.

"Each year, the generosity of Skokie neighbors provides comfort, dignity and hope to Skokie families experiencing financial hardship."

"Community members' contributions make a real difference—helping local families meet essential household needs and celebrate the winter holidays with greater peace of mind. Through the program, families receive gift cards to local businesses, allowing them to purchase groceries, household items, and other necessities tailored to their individual needs."

"Last year, thanks to our community’s generosity, 314 Skokie households received assistance—a powerful testament to what we can achieve together. Every dollar you give stays right here in Skokie, strengthening the bonds of care and community that make our Village so special."

"Your continued generosity helps ensure that every Skokie family can experience comfort and hope this winter season."

Donations can be made online using the Assist-a-Family donation form or by mailing a check to the Skokie Health and Human Services Department at 5127 Oakton Street. For more details, residents can visit the Assist-a-Family web page or contact the Skokie Human Services Division at 847-933-8252.
