David Cromer, renowned theater director | Wikipedia
David Cromer was born on October 17, 1964, in Skokie, Illinois. Raised in the village, he attended local schools before moving on to Columbia College Chicago. Cromer dropped out of high school, later earning his GED. His career began in Chicago’s theater scene. Cromer directed several notable productions, including Angels in America and The Adding Machine, which earned him several awards. His 2008 production of The Adding Machine later moved to Off-Broadway, gaining critical acclaim. Cromer won the Lucille Lortel Award and the Obie Award for his direction of Our Town. In 2018, he won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for The Band’s Visit. He has also worked on Broadway revivals such as The House of Blue Leaves and Brighton Beach Memoirs. Cromer’s work continues to reflect his connection to Skokie and Chicago.
