Bernard E. Pedersen was born on November 24, 1925, in Grinnell, Iowa. He grew up there and later served in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he attended Grinnell College and earned a bachelor’s degree. Pedersen moved to Palatine, Illinois, where he owned an insurance business. He became involved in local politics.

In 1982, Pedersen was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives as a Republican. He served in that position for more than a decade. He worked on legislation and represented his district in Springfield. Pedersen remained active in his community and kept close ties to Palatine through his business and public service. He was reelected in 1996.

Pedersen died of cancer on November 6, 1996, in Palatine, only hours after his reelection. His death marked the end of a long career in public service. He is remembered for his contributions to local government and his engagement with the community. Pedersen’s work in business and politics left a lasting impact on Palatine, where he spent much of his life.
