Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, representing Illinois's 8th District since 2017, with a background that includes a Princeton University BS and a Harvard JD, expressed his concerns about recent allegations involving Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Originating from New Delhi, India, in 1973 and now residing in Schaumburg, Krishnamoorthi has used his platform to address issues vital to national security and oversight.
On March 28, 2025, Congressman Krishnamoorthi criticized alleged discrepancies in administrative accountability. In his tweet, he emphasized the contrast between the treatment of employees and senior officials, specifically highlighting that "employees can't leave their computers to walk to the printer without threat of being fired, but senior officials can discuss classified war plans in an unsecured Signal group chat".
Later that same day, Krishnamoorthi joined Illinois veterans at Daley Plaza calling for Secretary Hegseth's resignation due to his alleged mishandling of classified information. He stated, "I was proud to join Illinois veterans...to call on Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to step down following his exposure of classified information in a Signal group chat that could have been used to target American service members."
Continuing his criticism, Krishnamoorthi called for Secretary Hegseth's resignation, arguing the Secretary's actions were irresponsible. On March 28, he tweeted, "Pete Hegseth must resign...Illinois service members and veterans expect their leaders to be responsible...Hegseth has shown none of those traits and endangered our troops when he exposed classified information and then lied about it."
