CIVICS FORUM

The Village Clerk reviewed the purpose and goal of the Civics Forum and summarized what the students have done to prepare for this meeting.

Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High Schools are represented this evening. The students were teamed up with department heads and elected officials. They were presented with proposal requests from several different departments. Each student department head presented their request before the student board, which were as follows:

• Fire Department – Technical Rescue Team Equipment Upgrades – details of which are contained in the memo from Chief Baker, Deputy Chief Kane and Tyler Grace.

• Public Works/Engineering Department – Dell 75” 4k Interactive Touch Screen Monitor – details of which are contained in the memo from Bryan Beitzel.

• Finance/Community Development Department – iPads for Shared Front Counter Area– details of which are contained in the memo from Nicole Woods and Chris Black.

• Police Department – Photographic Lidar for Speed Enforcement – details of which are contained in the memo from Officer Cholewa.

• OVM/Administrative Services/Human Resources/Communications – Naturalized Landscaping for BG Youth Center – details of which are contained in the memo from the Departments.

The student board discussed each of the requests, and ultimately voted to purchase the Technical Rescue Team Equipment Upgrades. The Buffalo Grove Fire Department maintains several different specialized rescue teams, including a Technical Rescue Team made up of technicians from a variety of specialties including rope rescue, trench collapse, structure collapse and confined space rescues. The Department does not currently have the equipment necessary to begin rescue procedures for certain types of incidents and must instead wait for outside teams to arrive. With the purchase of the Harken Wingman, Buffalo Grove Team members will be able to begin immediate rescue procedures upon arrival at the scene.

The students were then presented with Certificates from the Village and thanked by the Board and the audience for another outstanding program.

AYES: 5 – Johnson, Cesario, Ottenheimer, Stein, Weidenfeld

NAYS: 0 – None

Motion declared carried.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 P.M.
