Hoffman Estates firefighters Daniel Kurzawinski, Daniel Globe, and Mark Lauder are being recognized for their dedication to the community in which they serve.

The three firefighters were presented with proclamations in their honor during the Feb. 6 village board meeting

Trustee Gary Stanton read the proclamation: "Whereas exemplary public service employment is of vital importance in assuring provision of services directed toward the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of any community [and] the Fire Department has upon its roster an individual who should be commended for assisting in said department and faithfully serving the citizens of this community and [their] length of service, coupled with continued training and positive attitude toward assigned job tasks, make a profile of this dedicated employee."

The proclamations for Kurzawinski, Globe, and Lauder honored their 25 years of service to the fire department. They also proclaimed Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, as Daniel Kurzawinski Day, Daniel Globe Day, and Mark Lauder Day in their honor.

All three firefighters were thanked for their dedication and continued service to the village of Hoffman Estates, continuing their training and education, taking on any task assigned to them, and leading the rest of the department with bravery and honor. Fire Chief Alan Wax was at the meeting to accept the recognition of his crew and present them with the plaques commemorating this honor. Much of the fire department was also there to show support.

This celebration comes amidst some dark times for local Illinois firefighters. According to a Facebook post by the South Elgin Professional Fire Fighters Local 4833, several nearby departments lost longtime brothers on the force. The Itasca fire department is mourning the loss of officer Frank Nuñez, the Chicago Fire Department Union 2 lost paramedic Aaron Buckley, Skokie lost Andrew Cutting, Franklin Park is mourning the loss of Dominic Rubino, and Kirkland said goodbye to Ken Clark. All of the departments held ceremonies and traditions of honor for the fallen brothers, with other local departments stepping in to cover any calls so that each member of the crew could attend the funerals and services.
