At its Jan. 17 meeting, the Village of Bartlett Board approved two resolutions regarding the intergovernmental agreement for conveyance of Bartlett Park from the Village of Bartlett to the Bartlett Park District, and authorizing the transfer of real estate from the Village of Bartlett to the Bartlett Park District.

No big changes were expected with this approval as the Parks District has been operating the park for 50 years.

The village had been in a lease agreement with the Park District since Jan. 1, 1972, but it expired on Dec. 31. The lease stated that it was in the best interest of the village and its people to turn over the planning, operation, and maintenance of the parks and recreation facilities to the Bartlett Park District. It also outlines the various responsibilities and authorities of each municipality in the agreement.

“And what's really great is how well the village staff and the Park District staff work together,” director of Bartlett Parks District Rita Fletcher said. “And we like to support you guys because you support us. So we would never say, Oh, you can't have [an event here] — we want you to have any event you want as long as you know it's appropriate for the Park District.”

The council uploaded a livestream of its public meeting to the village’s YouTube channel.

The Parks District performs the maintenance and runs programs at the park. The city just signs off on things that require an owner’s permission: utilities and event permits. The only change with this lease would be that the Parks District would not pay the utility bill for electricity.

The village is still able to use the park and host events at it, it would just have to fill out the event form that the Park District makes all their vendors fill out.

Some councilmembers were interested giving the Bartlett Park District the authority over more city parks, but they decided to do so on a case by case basis.

The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Village Hall Council Chambers at 228 South Main St.
