A former staffer for U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL) – soon to be imprisoned Sterling Carter – was once arrested for allegedly posing as an FBI agent during a Trump rally in 2020.
“(Now former) Democrat Brad Schneider staffer Sterling Devion Carter posed as an FBI agent at Trump rally - arrested,” Biden Watch said on Facebook.
Carter led authorities on a police chase and was the subject of a manhunt afterward.
Prior to being captured he allegedly forged his boss’s signature in order to revive an $80,000 raise.
On Nov. 14, 2020, Carter was posing as an FBI agent at a Make American Great Again rally where he had what appeared to be an undercover police cruiser with lights and a barrier to separate the driver from detainees.
However, he was spotted as a suspicious subject due by the Secret Service due to his car’s license plate - which looked different from other law enforcement - and for improperly fastening his ammunition belt.
After being approached by several police on bicycles, Carter sped off.
His identity was later determined after police were able to track down a list of people who had bought a generic FBI shirt from a local store.
Carter stepped down after being arrested.
“His neighbors told federal agents they’d seen Carter dress up like law enforcement before, openly carrying his firearm—which is illegal in the District of Columbia for anyone other than police—and they remembered Carter referring to his fake police car as his ‘work vehicle,’” the Daily Beast reported.
Carter pled guilty to illegally carrying a firearm and was charged with theft of public funds for giving himself the raise. He is facing a nine-month sentence on that charge.
Schneider faces Republican Joseph Severino this Nov. 8 in the general election.
The new 10th District comprises areas of north Cook County and Lake County.
Severino has criticized Schneider for being misguided on their criminal justice track record in which he partnered with Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and cook county State’s Attorney Kim Foxx.
“We cannot accept the dangers of having anti-cop radicals like Brad Schneider representing the 10th Congressional District any longer. We must respect the police, back the blue, and demand law-and-order,” Severino said in an op-ed.
