OPINION: Severino: Violence Against Cops in the Suburbs

Over the weekend, a very shocking video went viral, showing a Naperville policeman defending himself against a murderous, axe-wielding attacker. Thankfully, the officer escaped unharmed due to his expert training and lightning-fast reactions that saved his life.

This kind of vicious and totally unprovoked attack upon a police officer inevitably results from the shameful culture of disrespect toward cops that is promoted by the far Left in America, including my opponent Representative Brad Schneider. Here is what Brad Schneider said about cops who properly neutralized Jacob Blake in Kenosha:

"Our nation is once more shocked, and a community again devastated by another police shooting of an unarmed Black man…The horrific video of the shooting of Jacob Blake is sickeningly all too familiar.”

Brad is totally wrong on the facts.

Blake was indeed armed, as determined by both local as well as federal prosecutors. In fact, the brave officer was totally justified in using deadly force to defend himself and the community against a violent repeat criminal.

Here in Illinois, Chicago sadly led America with over 800 murders last year in 2021. Brad Schneider’s political cronies, Mayor Lori Lightfoot and State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, allow a once-great city to descend into lawless chaos.

But as the brutal Naperville video shows, that Chicago violence will not stay contained only to the city. Police officers and regular citizens in the north and northwest suburbs are increasingly at risk, as well.

We cannot accept the dangers of having anti-cop radicals like Brad Schneider representing the 10th Congressional District any longer.

We must respect the police, back the blue, and demand law-and-order.
