Public policy advocate Mark Weyermuller slammed Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin for his absence at another gubernatorial race event.
“Another large candidate forum at the Assyrian GOP in Skokie last night with another NO SHOW by Richard Irvin. Darren Bailey, Gary Rabine, Max Solomon all appeared in person, Irvin again in #emptychair @DarrenBaileyIL @IrvinBourne4IL @DarrenBaileyIL @PaulSchimpf @JesseSullivanIL," Weyermuller said on Twitter.
Weyermuller has previously questioned Irvin's dedication to the GOP Republican nomination. On his Facebook account, he posted an image of yard signs of the other candidates running for the Illinois gubernatorial race and asked where Irvin is.
“Can somebody get me a Richard Irvin yard sign?" Weyermuller, who describes himself as a frequent talk show guest and contributor to the Illinois Review, said. "I’ve never seen one. Roper is first to drop out. Who will drop out next as I’m hearing rumors?”
Irvin is running the gubernatorial race along with other GOP candidates including State Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia), Jesse Sullivan, McHenry County businessman Gary Rabine, former state Sen. Paul Schimpf, Max Solomon and Emily Johnson. The primary election will take place on Tuesday, June 28.
The Aurora mayor skipped the Central Illinois Republican Governor Candidate Forum on April 25 and has been difficult to locate on the campaign trail. Others in the GOP ranks have been more vocal about his absence in public forums, the Peoria Standard reported.
"Richard Irvin's empty chair on stage Monday will speak volumes to me," Tazewell County Clerk John C. Ackerman said after Irvin refused to participate in the forum.
Irvin’s main public exposure has been on accusations that he "rigged" a Lake County Republican straw poll on the primary race. "The campaign of GOP governor hopeful Richard Irvin bussed in 'elderly Indian senior citizens' to vote for him in a Lake County Republican straw poll on the primary race Saturday," sources told Lake County Gazette.
According to Patch, Irvin will be featured at a township meet-and-greet event on Saturday, May 7.
