The Chicago Fire Department Firefighters Union has endorsed Matt Podgorski for Cook County Commissioner in the Ninth District, his campaign announced.
"Thank you to [union president] Jim Tracy & Chicago Fire Department Firefighters Union - Local 2 for your endorsement!" Podgorski said on Facebook. "As most know, I am a vocal supporter of our first responders. This endorsement means a lot to me."
Podgorski has been endorsed by 41st Ward Republican Committeeman Ammie Kessem, 41st Ward Ald. Anthony Napolitano, 38th Ward Republican Committeeman Dan Patlak, National Republican Committeeman Sean Morrison and former Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Kathy Penner, the North Cook News reported.
Podgorski is seen as the early favorite by political analyst Russ Stewart and this endorsement further cements his leading contender position, the story said. This recent endorsement is just the latest in a string of endorsements from local leaders.
In addition to this support for locals, Podgorski's platform of public safety, tax cuts and bringing down gas taxes have helped him raise in excess of $100,000 in campaign contributions, the story said.
Podgorski has made public safety and supporting first responders a critical plank of his campaign, North Cook News reported.
