Glenview FD responds to 111 fires in 2018

Glenview Fire District responded to 1562 calls in 2018 - 15.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Glenview included 111 fires - 63 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 36 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $940,804 in fire loss - or about $8,476 per fire.

The department also received 1446 false calls, including 19 malicious calls and 1427 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, three fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Glenview Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 80 active employees and 91 retired or inactive employees, was $4,684,152 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $41,823 for every fire in 2017.
