Schaumburg FD responds to 164 fires in 2018

Schaumburg Fire District responded to 1588 calls in 2018 - 16.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Schaumburg included 164 fires - 64 structure fires, 29 vehicle fires and 71 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $553,355 in fire loss - or about $3,374 per fire.

The department also received 1420 false calls, including 34 malicious calls and 1386 other false calls.

The Schaumburg Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 118 active employees and 126 retired or inactive employees, was $4,345,058 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $33,683 for every fire in 2017.
