ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 55: Moylan Expands Telehealth Resources amid COVID-19 Pandemic

55

Illinois State House District 55 issued the following announcement on June 8

Working to provide residents with the medical resources they need, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, recently passed legislation to expand access to telehealth and mental health resources for residents during the COVID-19 crisis.

“During this pandemic, the need for remote health care services has grown exponentially,” Moylan said. “Health care and mental health are essential, so we needed to help expand options available for residents to continue their treatment during this unprecedented crisis.”

The Moylan-supported Senate Bill 671, also named the Telehealth During the COVID-19 Pandemic Act, aims to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 by providing safe alternatives to in-person treatment. The bill mandates that health insurers, regulated by the Department of Insurance, must cover the cost of telehealth services provided to its members during the COVID-19 crisis. This includes access to mental health resources.

“A public health crisis such as this requires that we do everything in our power to provide essential medical services to residents,” Moylan said. “Responding to this pandemic in particular, we want residents to remain safe and continue social distancing. This expansion of telehealth and mental health resources allows patients to continue receiving the crucial care they need while limiting any unnecessary risk to COVID-19.”
