Village of Hoffman Estates issued the following announcement on Dec. 28.
Don't make the most wonderful time of year the most wasteful time of year! The Village offers many opportunities to recycle your holiday cheer!!
There are two options for recycling your "live" Christmas trees and wreaths:
Curbside pickup: Christmas tree collection is scheduled on regular service days for the first two weeks of January 2019. Please remember that all lights, ornaments, garland and artificial decorations must be removed from the tree, plastic disposal bags are prohibited, and one disposal sticker must be visibly wrapped around the tree trunk or branch. Flocked trees are acceptable. Wreaths and garland made of pine boughs or other organic materials will also be accepted, provided the wiring and plastic have been removed. These items should be placed in a Kraft yard waste bag with a disposal sticker attached. Leftover yard waste and bags of leaves will also be accepted, provided the required disposal sticker is attached to each bag or bundle of material. Yard waste stickers are available at local retailers, the Village Hall and on the Village's website. For more information, contact Code Enforcement at 847-781-2631.
Drop-off sites: Can't wait for pickup? Christmas trees and greenery can also be dropped off at no chargeanytime between Wednesday, Dec. 26, and Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at the Public Works Fleet Maintenance Facility, 2405 Pembroke Ave.; the field next to Fire Station 23, 1300 Westbury Drive; and the field next to Fire Station 24, 5775 Beacon Pointe Drive. Signs will direct residents to drop-off areas at all locations. For more information, contact Public Works at 847-490-6800.
Recycle holiday lights and extension cords:
The Village has partnered once again with SWANCC and Everlights to offer a recycling dropoff in the Village Hall lobby. Bring your old or broken holiday string lighting and extension cords to Village Hall during normal business hours and deposit in the box in the lobby. Dropoff accepted through Monday, Feb. 8.
Recycle holiday wrapping paper:
Holiday wrap without foil or felt can usually be recycled! Just fold paper and place into your recycling cart as normal. Not sure if it's recyclable? Check the back of the paper - some brands are labeled as recycling-friendly!
