Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) members are being encouraged to keep a close watch on Senate Bill 3637, recently introduced by Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield).
Known as the Ammo Tax Bill, the legislation currently sits in Senate Assignments but could be called to go before the Committee at any time. The bill would amend the State Finance Act to create a Community Mental Health Services Fund to establish and support community-based mental health programs.
“On Tuesday November 13, the Illinois General Assembly will begin the first Veto Session,” ISRA Executive Director Richard A. Pearson noted in a bulletin recently sent to members. “Please forward this every way you can. We have been shut down from boosting our posts on Facebook and other social media platforms.”
Pearson also noted that Democratic legislators wasted little time following the midterm elections to move on such legislation, with Morrison bringing it to the floor on the morning after votes were tallied.
“We will keep you posted, but this is the foreboding of things to come,” he added in the bulletin.
