The Lincoln Series, a prestigious program empowering women with leadership skills since 1994, plans a northern Illinois campaign training program from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 16 at the Palatine Township Republican Organization Headquarters.
Focused on females considering candidacy alongside those actively involved in political office, the program will cover campaign logistics, messaging, coaching and fundraising. Rutgers University’s Jean Sinzdak observed that in Illinois, men occupy 80 percent and 70 percent of the state’s Congressional and legislative seats, respectively.
“This mirrors national trends for women’s underrepresentation,” Sinzdak said. “Programs like The Lincoln Series are crucial to help close this gap by encouraging and training women to run for and serve in elected office.”
The Lincoln Series recently expanded its mission to steer more women toward process and policy; it is accessible to women at any level of public service, whether newcomers or veterans; and offers scheduling flexibility.
Conceived by six women 24 years ago in an effort to amplify opportunities for women officeholders, The Lincoln Series has now advanced the careers of over 200 women, many of whom won elected positions in Illinois and nationwide.
Series president Eva Pusateri expressed enthusiasm, stating “We’re excited … because the more knowledge women have about running for office, the more confident and willing women will be to put their name on the ballot.”
