State Representative Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) no longer supports Gov. Bruce Rauner’s re-election bid after the first-term governor signed a controversial bill that forces taxpayers to pay for abortions at any point in pregnancy for any reason, according to a statement.
Rauer has faced some harsh Republican backlash since he signed HB40 into law on Sept. 28. According to the website Politico, Rauner had earlier told several Republicans that he didn’t plan on tackling any social issues during his term, instead focusing on economic issues needs of the state.
Morrison said he no longer believes that Rauner is a good fit for office.

"I do not still support Gov. Rauner because of HB40 and other decisions he had made,” Morrison said in his statement. “I do believe he should step aside and let another candidate run for the Republican nomination--one who actually supports our party's platform."
