The Elk Grove community raised more than $175,000 to install and elevator at the community’s VFW Hall, including contributions from a raffle held last Veterans’ Day and $85,000 from local businesses, according to a release from the Village.
At the last Village Board meeting, the board members joined the Community Character Coalition, its partner in the fundraising efforts, in presenting the check to the members of VFW Post 9284. The much needed elevator will allow greater accessibility for visitors.
The raffle, dubbed the Vette for Vets Car Raffle, allowed community members to support veterans while entering for a chance to win a Corvette. It was made possible by Castle Chevorlet North, owned by Joe Castelbuono, Tony Castelbuono and Bob Politza, which donated the prize.

Mayor Craig Johnson connected with other local businesses to try to reach the fundraising goal of $150,000, and thanks to their generosity was able to collect $178,953.58.
“Once local business owners heard why we were raising money, they dug deep.” Johnson said. “I’m very proud of our community for coming together in support of our local veterans. This was an ambitious fund-raising goal, but I knew we would be able to meet the challenge.”
