Independent candidates seeking election as trustees in the New Trier Township suffered a significant defeat at the hands of New Trier Economy Party candidates.
With 39 of the 41 precincts reporting, Kathy Myalls, Bob Costello and Stacey Woehrle lost, garnering just 20 percent of all votes. Myalls received 6.95 percent of votes; Costello garnered 6.77 percent; and Woehrle brought in 6.81 percent of votes.
In comparison, New Trier Economy Party candidates had at least twice and nearly three times the votes of the independents. At time of publication, with 90 percent of precincts reporting, Kevin Boyd had 6,250 votes, Gail Schnitzer Eisenberg captured 6,278 votes, Elliot Robbins grabbed 6,001 votes and John Thomas had 5,977 votes.
Independent candidates Myalls, Costello and Woehrle campaigned on a platform of fiscal responsibility and awareness of jurisdictional boundaries.
The New Trier Economy Party was formed in 2016 by the New Trier Citizens League – a nonpartisan community organization that works like a caucus to choose candidates to run for office.
