Mel Thillens, Republican contender for the District 28 state Senate seat, announced the creation of a "Women for Thillens" coalition at a women's roundtable discussion in Schaumburg this week.
The event featured Thillens and State Comptroller Leslie Munger, along with other coalition members, in a discussion of the issues faced by Illinois voters.
Munger, Roselle Mayor Gayle Smolinski, state Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) and 31 other state and local female leaders took part.

“I really appreciate having so many local women supporting my campaign," Thillens said. "I enjoyed hearing their concerns and discussing my plan to get our state back on track with term limits, fair maps, property tax relief and small-business reforms.”
Thillens and Munger spoke to the crowd of approximately 50 women who attended the event. Munger discussed her "No Budget, No Pay" legislation, which would hold back lawmakers' paychecks if they don't produce balanced budgets by July 1 annually. A question-and-answer period followed their speeches.
“The first job of a state legislator is to make sure we have a balanced budget in place," Thillens said. "I look forward to sponsoring 'No Budget, No Pay' legislation once I get elected to the state Senate.”
