An increase in the fine for late payment of village vehicle stickers was approved on March 16.
The Village of Mount Prospect board of trustees approved an increase in the fines associated with late payment of village vehicle stickers at its special meeting on March 16.
Ordinance 6234 amended the village code to clean up unnecessary cross-references and added the fine increase for vehicle sticker violations.
The village vehicle sticker price was increased by $5 on Feb. 1. The 2014 ordinance that authorized the increases for 2015 and 2016 did not include a fine increase for violations after May 1, 2016. Ordinance 6234 added a section to the village code that addressed the issue.
According to the ordinance, if the payment is made before a late payment notice is sent out, the payment will be $45. If the late payment notice has been mailed, the payment will be $70. If both a late payment notice and a final notice have been mailed, the payment will be $105.
If the violation has not been paid and the village serves a notice to appear or files a complaint in the Circuit Court of Cook County, the payment will be determined by the court. Possible amounts range from $96 to $300.
