The Sherman Public Library board of trustees held interviews for the library director position on March 2.
The special board meeting was held in the library meeting room.
The Sherman Public Library began recruitment for the position last year. The application deadline was Dec. 15. The library district serves approximately 4,500 residents. The new director will supervise one full-time and four part-time employees, in addition to volunteers.
The qualifications for the director included a preference for a Master in Library Science degree; however, a bachelor's degree and Library Technical Assistant certificate would be considered, as well. Three years of experience in a library, plus one to three years of administrative and supervisory experience, was also expected. Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds was a requirement.
The Sherman Public Library became official on Nov. 20, 1995. The library quickly outgrew the shared 400-square-foot space at the Village Hall. A new library building was constructed and opened on April 1, 2000. The library building is nearly 5,000 square feet, with a children's book section, meeting room and computers.
