Coalition asks for Park Ridge residents' support on moratorium of runways as it meets with Mayor Rahm Emanuel tomorrow.

After two and a half years of effort and 23 requests, the Fair Allocation in Runways (FAiR) Coalition has successfully arranged a meeting with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for tomorrow, Jan. 27.

The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Chicago City Hall. FAiR is seeking a voice in the distribution of takeoffs and landings at O'Hare International Airport.

Noise levels and air pollution have risen dramatically since October 2013 when O'Hare reconfigured its runways, using a different flight pattern for takeoffs and landings. Several Chicago and suburban communities have been adversely affected by the increase in flights over their neighborhoods.

FAiR asks Park Ridge and other suburban residents to sign its petition halting the O'Hare Modernization Plan (OMP). This plan includes the construction of new runways and demolition of diagonal runway 32R-14L. FAiR plans to present the petition to Emanuel, Gov. Bruce Rauner and other elected officials to emphasize the public's reaction to the noise and pollution in neighborhoods under the flight path. The petition is available online at www.change.org.

FAiR is a coalition of citizens and civic organizations seeking a voice in the process of modernizing the airport and an equitable and acceptable distribution of takeoffs and landings from O'Hare. In addition, FAiR is asking for a detailed analysis of the data gathered in the surrounding neighborhoods since the flight patterns were changed in 2013.
