Elgin water main replacement project continues

Elginlogo

The city of Elgin is continuing work on a water main replacement project that has closed the east side of State Street between Chicago Street and Highland Avenue.

The project will replace a section of water main that has disrupted water service several times in the past few years.

The State Street parking and reverse flow lane was closed Monday and will remain closed for approximately three weeks during the project. Weather and unanticipated issues with the underground construction may extend the project timeline, however, the city is working to minimize its effect on businesses in the area. Parking and drive access will be reopened as soon as possible.

As work crews transfer service from the old main to the new main, water service will be shut down for short intervals. The city plans to give affected occupants at least a 24-hour notice before any water disruptions.

After the water main is replaced, the final phase of the Central Business Project can begin. That project includes replacing the sidewalk and roadway.

Citizen advocates will be available by phone at 311 to answer questions regarding the water main replacement project.
