Sammi France, a student from Arlington Heights, Illinois, is currently studying Elementary Middle Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She is serving as a student teacher in the Elementary & Middle programs at Pewaukee Lake Elementary School within the Pewaukee school district for the spring 2025 semester, continuing through January 2026.

France is part of UW-Whitewater's College of Education and Professional Studies. This semester, 179 students from UW-Whitewater have been placed in school districts across the region beginning in August. Student teaching serves as the final requirement before candidates earn their degree and teaching license.

Throughout the semester, UW-Whitewater will work with 223 cooperating teachers at 175 schools in 117 districts. Student teachers assist cooperating teachers with lesson planning, instruction, and assessment. In addition to these placements, 42 UW-Whitewater teacher candidates were hired by school districts as student teaching interns this fall under the Department of Public Instruction's Wisconsin Improvement Program (WIP). These interns are licensed by DPI to teach up to half of each day independently and receive a stipend for their work during the semester.

UW-Whitewater licenses more teachers than any other institution in Wisconsin. The university’s original mission when it was founded in 1868 was to educate teachers. More information about UW-Whitewater’s College of Education and Professional Studies can be found at uww.edu/coeps.
