Rachel Meilinger of Arlington Heights, Illinois, participated in Carthage College's Nursing Class of 2027 White Coat Ceremony on September 20, 2025. The event took place at the A. F. Siebert Chapel on the college’s campus in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The White Coat Ceremony marks the completion of foundational classes for nursing students and signals a transition to specialty-focused clinical coursework. Junior-year students who participate in this ceremony will continue their studies for two more years before graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and becoming eligible to take the professional registered nurse exam.
Nancy Reese, Associate Dean for Carthage's School of Health, addressed the class during the ceremony. "The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage and serves to welcome students to healthcare practice and to elevate the value of humanism as the core of healthcare," she said.
Carthage College’s direct-entry nursing program trains future healthcare professionals using simulation labs and emphasizes compassionate, patient-centered care. The recently established School of Health also offers undergraduate majors in allied health science, exercise and sport science, neuroscience, social work, sociology, and criminal justice. There is also a five-year track leading to a master's degree in athletic training.
Founded in 1847 and located on Lake Michigan in Kenosha, Carthage College is conducting a $100 million fundraising campaign called "Light that Travels" aimed at supporting student access, program innovation, and excellence.
