This week in North Cook County history.

Paul William Splittorff, born October 8, 1946, grew up in Arlington Heights

This week in history marks the birth of Paul William Splittorff Jr. on October 8, 1946, in Evansville, Indiana. He grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and attended Arlington High School. Splittorff played his entire Major League Baseball career with the Kansas City Royals from 1970 to 1984. He was a key pitcher for the Royals, achieving a career total of 166 wins. Splittorff was known for his consistent performance and was a part of the team that won the American League West in 1976. He also started in the inaugural game at Kauffman Stadium in 1973. After retiring, he became a television commentator for the Royals and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1987. Splittorff passed away on May 25, 2011.
