Jim Michaels was born on September 12, 1965, in Des Plaines, Illinois. He grew up in the nearby suburb of Arlington Heights. His parents were Anna Mae and Robert Michaels. He graduated from John Hersey High School and later from the University of Evansville with a degree in business.

Michaels began his career in computer graphics at MCA/Universal Studios. He worked on shows like Knight Rider and Miami Vice. He then moved into post-production, working on Pee Wee’s Playhouse.

His career in television production took off with shows like Midnight Caller and Reasonable Doubts. He also worked on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Charlie Grace, and The Guardian. He was a producer for the hit series Everybody Hates Chris and later joined the team for Supernatural, working on the series from Season 5 through its final season.

Michaels has been a member of various industry organizations including the Producers Guild of America and the Directors Guild of America. He has also been involved in producing projects like the documentary Remember the Sultana.

Michaels continues to influence the television industry while staying connected to his Arlington Heights roots. His career reflects his deep involvement in both the creative and production sides of television.
