On January 13, 2025, we at North Cook News submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Schaumburg School District 54 in Illinois. The request seeks to obtain data on the number of non-U.S. citizens currently enrolled in the school district.
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to such public records is crucial for our role in disseminating information and ensuring transparency. This specific request is part of our ongoing efforts to hold public institutions accountable and provide clear insights into their operations.
In addition to this request, it's worth noting some state-wide educational statistics. According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, while the average administrative salary stood at $116,908. The average student-to-administrative ratio is 141:1, and the average student-to-teacher ratio is 17:1. Interestingly, over half - 58% - of teachers in Illinois have a master's degree or higher.
