On January 13, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Lincolnwood School District 74 in Illinois. The request was made by North Cook News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for information regarding the number of "migrants" (e.g., illegal aliens/non-U.S. citizens) currently enrolled in the school district. This inquiry aims to shed light on the demographics of students attending schools within the district.
As members of North Cook News, we believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
