He stated: "I am deeply disturbed that Pakistan’s security forces are cracking down on demonstrations with violent tactics including live ammunition and mass arrests. I condemn this violence and urge the government to allow peaceful protests to continue."
Later that day, he emphasized the importance of career and technical education programs following a visit to such a program in the Quad Cities. He tweeted: "Every path to success is different, which is why it’s so important to invest in career and technical education programs like the one I visited in the Quad Cities yesterday. The ladder to the Middle Class must be open to all Americans."
