At the June 20 meeting of the Village of Bartlett Board of Trustees, Trustee Raymond Deyne, who chairs the public works and gold committee, proposed a resolution awarding the Bartlett Hills Golf Club irrigation improvement bid to Commercial Irrigation, Inc. The resolution amended a previous plan in order to cut costs by eliminating a pump house and roughly 295 sprinkler heads from the design. In addition, staff would be required to remove the current heads, and no sprinkler heads would be installed in the driving range. These proposed adjustments are set to reduce project costs by roughly $858,500.
"All I can tell you is that Bartlett Hills is one of the best assets that our village has," Deyne said.
Another trustee went on to support viewing the project from a public works point of view saying, "Infrastructure is not glamorous, it's not pretty. It's not the frosting on the cake, but it's essential."
Despite the cuts, the $2.4 million bid for the project is still $500,000 over the initial $1.9 million budget for the project.
"I really think we need to look at this because, I mean, that is a serious problem in my eyes," Trustee Adam Hopkins said. "We're paying more and essentially getting less."
After discussion, the board elected to table the resolution until its next meeting on July 18 to allow more time to evaluate other potential bids or contractors for the project.
